Artist's Comments

This was a class project in design development I did in '99, made with human hair (kindly donated by my little brother) and various mixed media found, natural, manmade and a little manipulated. We were instructed to create a 'postcard' depicting our home town, combining any recognisable elements of what we thought would best portray it etc..blah blah..hehe :D
Well...I was the only one who used textiles as a medium of choice, and I had used this piece in other formats to keep it interesting.
I had photocopied it to paper to spirit-transfer onto dyed silk(dyed with weird puffer balls you often mistake for mushrooms on the side of the road until you kick it and yellowish/ochre dust floops out) - I'll try get a photo or scan of that into this description somehow- it's an awkward thing to try display...but gorgeous :) and here it is!
eh..
approx. 27cm X 12cm (or 10.5 X 5 inches)
anyhoo- I'm submitting this old work to make way for a new piece I'm making today out of my own hair :D

enjoy :D

Looks nice as all your stuff. I like the metal parts. Are they representing buildings? I'm looking forward to your new project.

Wow its amazing how work comes together!

I've only just started textiles, in September! And currently I am uploading photos of all the different pieces I’ve done and writing about the different techniques I have used, in hope that they will help someone gain inspiration or just learn more about Textiles. - When I was looking for more info there weren't many sights which offered help!
:iconbloodyrael:
I've also found it hard to find more info on techniques that people have used and agree there's very little of it on the internet (or it's a struggle to find something specific!), at least some of the time on deviantart the artists provide details, which is good :) But, a lot dont do that especially when they're developing their own unique techinques :)
